ABOUT
The Woodson Foundation builds pathways to opportunity by preparing, empowering, and investing in emerging leaders.
Founded by R. Wayne Woodson after more than a decade in higher education, the Foundation was created to address a critical gap. While many students had access to support before college, far fewer received the guidance, mentorship, and resources needed to persist, succeed, and navigate their academic and career journeys.

This insight shaped a mission focused on removing barriers to educational access and strengthening outcomes for emerging leaders, particularly those pursuing pathways through Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
As the Foundation grew, so did its reach and impact. What began as a focused effort to support college students expanded to include high school learners, institutional partnerships, and community-based engagement. This growth allowed the Foundation not only to prepare emerging leaders for opportunities but also to strengthen the environments that support their success.
Today, The Woodson Foundation is advancing a broader, more integrated approach to impact.
We prepare emerging leaders for success in college and trade programs through readiness training, leadership development, and mentorship. We build strategic partnerships with schools, institutions, and communities to expand access to resources and strengthen support systems. And we invest in economic empowerment and storytelling initiatives that elevate voices, remove barriers, and create pathways to long-term success.
