As a descendant of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the founder of Black History Month, Dr. Woodson carries forward a legacy rooted in education, cultural awareness, and the advancement of Black communities. This lineage informs his commitment to not only expanding access but also elevating the stories, contributions, and leadership of emerging leaders across the country.

Dr. Woodson founded The Woodson Foundation in response to a critical gap he witnessed throughout his career: while many students had access to support before entering college, far fewer received the guidance, mentorship, and resources needed to persist, succeed, and navigate their educational and professional journeys. Recognizing that access alone was not enough, he established the Foundation to remove barriers and strengthen pathways to long-term success.

As the needs of emerging leaders continued to evolve, Dr. Woodson led a strategic expansion of the Foundation’s work, broadening its focus beyond traditional college access to include trade pathways, leadership development, economic empowerment, and ecosystem partnerships. This shift was critical to ensuring that emerging leaders are not only prepared for opportunity but fully equipped to navigate, succeed within, and ultimately shape the systems that influence their futures.

Dr. Woodson’s work is grounded in a clear belief: when emerging leaders are equipped with the right support, opportunities, and pathways, they do not just succeed, they shape the future.
