ABOUT
The Safe Futures Initiative exists to ensure that no student has to choose between their safety and their future.
Designed as a college access and protection model, this work supports students navigating heightened barriers within today’s evolving educational and policy landscape. For many, the path to higher education is no longer just competitive. It is uncertain. It is, at times, unsafe.
For more than a decade, The Woodson Foundation has prepared and empowered emerging leaders by removing barriers and building pathways to success. Over the past four years, that work has expanded to intentionally support students who require more than guidance. They require protection, advocacy, and trust.
We have adapted how we show up. We have refined our language and visibility to safeguard the young people we serve and to ensure this work can continue without interruption.
But while the presentation has evolved, the purpose has not.
We remain committed to ensuring that students most at risk can access higher education, navigate it with confidence, and emerge with the tools to build stable, successful futures.
Because access alone is not enough. Students deserve to feel safe, seen, and supported every step of the way.

Our model integrates access, protection, and long-term support. We provide direct guidance, build trusted relationships, and strengthen the systems surrounding students so they are not navigating these challenges alone.
